Yuna Nagaoka (20) and Sumitada Moriguchi (24) of Kinoshita Academy – who finished fourth in pairs at the World Championships, returned to Japan from Prague on the 31st. Here’s a translation of their comments.
Although they were just one step away from the large medals awarded to the top three, they received a smaller medal for their placement. Reflecting on their leap from a last-place finish (19th) at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, Nagaoka said, “For us, this small medal at Worlds is truly valuable, and I’m really happy.” Moriguchi added, “After the disappointment at the Olympics, we overcame a lot in training to get here. This small medal has meaning, and being able to take home something tangible as a memory of the competition is proof of our hard work.”
With the season over and the off-season beginning, they also looked ahead to further progress next year. Moriguchi said, “I want to try new elements, like the throw lutz and new lifts. That’s one of our goals for next season,” promising continued growth.
