South Korean figure skater Junhwan Cha returned home after achieving a historic fourth place at the Olympics, expressing no regrets and planning to rest before considering his future. Here’s a translation of his comments.
He smiled and said, “I gave it my all, so I have no regrets.”
When asked about his future plans, he was reserved in his response.
“I finished all my scheduled events, including the gala show, and after preparing for the Olympics, I focused solely on training without paying much attention to my body, so I returned home a day early to take care of myself.”
“I narrowly missed the medal I was aiming for, but since I gave everything in that moment, I don’t feel any regrets.”
“Fluid kept accumulating in my injured ankle, so I kept draining it and getting treatment, but since it’s a spot that constantly comes into contact with the skates, it inevitably caused pain… Rather than focusing on the pain, I spent more time concentrating on training.”
“As for four years from now, it seems overwhelming at the moment, so I can’t say right away, ‘I’ll compete at the Alps Olympics,’ but if I take it one month at a time, one year at a time, one day at a time, I think I’ll find the path that’s right for me.”
