A press conference with Shoma Uno (28), who made a surprise announcement about switching to ice dance, and Marin Honda (24) was held in Tokyo on the 22nd. Here’s a translation of their comments posted on Nikkansports.

Regarding their training base and coaches, Uno explained, “We want to make the choices that will help us improve the most at any given time. We’re having many discussions about coaches, but once we’ve made a clear decision, we’ll make an official announcement. For now, I’d like to refrain from commenting further.”

The decision to form the team was made in October 2024, with Uno inviting Honda to join. When asked about their goal by the moderator, Uno replied, “This is a very important part, so please let us say it ourselves,” and together, in unison, they declared, “Our goal is to compete at the 2030 Olympics!”

Uno also explained why they chose to return in the 2026–27 season, which begins this July, rather than in 2025–26. ‘Because I know just how difficult the Olympics are, I want to seriously aim for the 2030 Olympics as a true competitor. That strong desire is why, even though we made the decision in October 2024, we decided to start from the 2026 season.”
