2016 World Championships bronze medalist Anna Pogorilaya commented on the results in women’s skating at the 2025 World Championships in Boston. Here’s a translation of her commenet.

American figure skater Alysa Liu won the World Championship, Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto claimed silver and Mone Chiba took bronze.

“After the short program and considering it was held in Boston, Alysa Liu’s victory was expected. The only question was which American skater would be placed on the podium. In the short program, the judges didn’t notice her under-rotations or other issues.

I can only comment on the short program, as I haven’t yet watched the free skate. But I suspect things there were probably similar.

That said, Alysa did well — she skated her program cleanly and didn’t falter. But there’s always this feeling that athletes from certain countries are favored. It’s especially noticeable in America.”

The judges dont “notice” underrotations. The technical panel does. The Technical controller of the event was Canadian, the other two are Europeans- one with Russian ancestry. If Anna thinks the American’s are noticeably favored, then what do you call what happened when Evgenia Medvedeva NEVER getting an incorrect lutz edge when it was very obvious? Or when Trusova skated around the rink with no choreography and transitions and still getting 9’s in PCS? Dont talk about favoritism my dear, dont throw stones in glass houses.
