The athletes competing on the first day of the figure skating team event, February 6, were announced on the 5th. For Japan, Kaori Sakamoto was selected for the women’s short program. Here’s a translation of her comments.
After official practice, Sakamoto spoke to the press about her selection for the team SP and her enthusiasm:
“I’m really happy to be able to compete in the team event again. Winning a medal at the last Olympics was the biggest turning point for me. Now, the fact that Japan can be in medal contention in the team event is something I’m truly proud of. I’m also very happy to be part of that. I want to make sure I finish the short program with everything I have, so I’ll make my final adjustments today and be ready to give it my all tomorrow.”
For the pair short program, Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara were selected, and for the ice dance rhythm dance, Utana Yoshida and Masaya Morita will compete.
