Shun Sato spoke about his performance at the 2025 Worlds and securing three spots for the Olympics. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.

“To be honest, I feel relieved that it’s over, but at the same time, I’m focused on shifting gears and working hard for the next season,” Shun Sato shared the day after his performance in the free skate.

Speaking about securing three spots for Japanese men for the Olympics, he mentioned: “I truly feel relieved, and honestly, for the past month, that’s all I’ve been thinking about. First and foremost, I’m really happy that we were able to secure the maximum number of spots.”

As for the Olympics, he said: “Of course, I have a strong desire to compete, but my goal isn’t just to make it to the Olympics. My ultimate objective lies beyond simply participating, so that’s where my focus is. As this season comes to an end, I’m already thinking about training for the next season, and I want to continue improving even more through the practice sessions that follow.”

The interviewer asked him “You’ve mentioned that you’ve trained as if your life depended on it. Could you give us some specifics about your training?” to which Shun replied: “Rather than focusing on quantity, it was more about quality. For instance, even if I landed a jump that I might have been satisfied with before, if the axis wasn’t as good as it could be, I kept going and kept refining it. I worked on seeing how many consecutive high-quality jumps I could execute. I really avoided setting limits for myself, like thinking, “This is good enough.” Even when I reached what I considered a good point, I pushed myself further and increased my training. I’m glad that I was able to reflect those efforts in the results.”
