The ISU plans to allow Russian figure skaters to participate in the Olympic qualification competition. This was reported by “R-Sport” citing sources familiar with the situation.
According to one of the sources, the ISU is expected to admit Russians and Belarusians to a new competition, which will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 Olympics in Milan.
Under current rules, Russian and Belarusian figure skaters can compete for one spot in each discipline at ISU competitions, but this issue has not yet been fully resolved.
It is possible that, if approved, Russians and Belarusians could also participate in other competitions during the Olympic season, but at the moment, the ISU’s priority is to resolve issues concerning the Olympic Games and qualification for them.
A verdict is expected following the next ISU council meeting, which will take place in March 2025 after the World Championships in Boston.

“Left politics out of the (elite) sport” is just an empty phrase. Where is money and prestige there is politics. So the ban of russian athletes is only right way. If they are so innocent a just want to sport, they can change their citizenship which some have already done.
*sips tea* interesting
You are punishing athletes and individuals, unfairly, for what they have no control over. This is pure discrimination, simply because they are Russian, “hell, we’ll teach them.” You will only create bitterness. What is the problem?: 1, they are Russian, 2, they compete internationally for and under Russia, 3, they support Putin’s actions, or 4, _______?
Every athlete has the right to compete internationally. They shouldn’t be discriminated against by the actions of their country, like that determines their right. And, it is not explicit or implicit approval or commendation of their country actions. Get (your) ******* politics out of sport.
Why is it most organizations or sport governing bodies, they start off hot & heavy with sanctions, disciplinary measures, etc, then back off, feel all sympathetic and loosen up the restrictions? The unprovoked aggression and human crisis that Russia (& Belarus) created should NOT be overlooked or forgiven! Russia needs to be punished and censored by the entire world community, in every avenue – sports included. So, sorry if that hurts the Russian skaters. Maybe if the entire country ganged up on Putin and threw him out of office, overthrow the government and construct real change, THAT’S when restrictions should be lifted and Russia can be welcomed back to the world.
Wrong decision. Until the war on Ukraine will end, no russians in the international competitions! Especialy on olympics!
Good step forward…fingers crossed
