Here’s a translation of Evgenia Medvedeva’s comments about her decision to switch coaches and train with Brian Orser after 2018 Olympics.

“It was better for everyone. First of all, for me. Being in the environment after the Olympics, when everyone said, ‘If only there were two gold medals. What a pity you didn’t win.’ It was constantly oppressive.

On the ice, too, it started: ‘We feel so sorry.’ It was impossible to hear. I said, ‘No, I’m not an Olympic champion, you can say that as much as you want, but here are two silvers. Why are you saying this?

It devalues my opponent’s victories, and it’s unwanted pity for me,” said Medvedeva in a documentary.

“Efforts to appease me, that you are a champion for us, morally hit me very hard. This is one of the bright episodes that influenced my decision, but it’s clear that there was not just one reason.

In my understanding, Brian (Orser) was the only person I could go to. I was glad to be in a new environment. I was inspired by something new. There were colors of different shades.

But as for an athlete, it was a difficult period. I was pretty beaten up in terms of competitive practice. I drove myself so hard that I saw things that weren’t even there.

But then I exhaled, looked around, realized it wasn’t there. There are a huge number of people who love me. Some even start crying when they see me.

In terms of sports results, it didn’t work out well, but I grew there as a person,” added the figure skater.
