Tamara Moskvina shared her philosophy of maintaining a positive, respectful environment in training, emphasizing the importance of avoiding excessive emotions and treating athletes as individuals. Here’s a translation of her comments.

“I work with athletes who are 14, 16, 18, 20, and 24–26 years old. What are their interests? Why did they come to me? They came to gain the opportunity to become high-level athletes and, at the same time, to enjoy life just like other people their age who aren’t athletes.

That’s why I tried to guide them not with a ‘do as I say’ or ‘I’m the boss, you’re the fool’ attitude, but in a way that never crossed the boundaries of human relationships with these athletes. Because if I forced them, used inappropriate language, or applied excessive pressure, it would require effort from me and force me to cross certain lines.

I told myself: what I do with these athletes is my life, and I want to spend this life in a friendly atmosphere. I can’t train an athlete for years and be constantly dissatisfied, irritable, or resort to shouting and yelling.

I am a sufficiently knowledgeable coach and specialist to get what the profession requires from a skater without humiliating them. I want my profession to bring me joy – first; to achieve positive results for everyone – second; and at the same time, not to ruin my own character and health, so I can do what I love for a long time,” Moskvina said in an interview on the Zarenkov Talk channel.
