Eteri Tutberidze spoke about the injury suffered by 2023 Russian women’s singles champion Sofia Akatieva. In 2022, Akatieva was injured during a training camp at the Novogorsk base, and in 2023, she was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her foot. Here’s a translation of his comments.

“She got this injury because she was very unfocused during training. Her training process was always very difficult – it was necessary to convince, push, and motivate her. When an athlete is in such a state, it usually leads to injury because they are not focused. Attempting ultra-C jumps, or even non-ultra-C jumps, is already on the edge of danger. This particular state – at Novogorsk, after a break, not wanting to do anything, lacking motivation – this ‘Come on, Sonya, you have to, let’s go,’ and that kind of unfocused state led to the injury,” Tutberidze said in an episode of the “Tutberidze Method” project for Okko Sport.
