Alexandra Trusova, the 2022 Olympic silver medalist, answered fans’ questions about regaining her quadruple jumps. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Q: What is it like to do quads after turning 20? What changes do you feel in your body?

Alexandra Trusova: Probably none. There’s no real difference between now and when I was a child. It feels the same as when I was 17, at least for the lutz. I’ve tried all the other quads too, and I thought I’d get them back as quickly as the lutz, but no, it doesn’t come back as fast as the lutz on the first try.

The only difference is that before I stopped competing, I would just keep jumping, whether I was tired or not. Now, if I know I won’t land it, I don’t even try – otherwise, I won’t be able to get up the next day.

Q: Why did you decide to regain your quads? Many skaters win without them.

Alexandra Trusova: Because I’m not like everyone else, haha. Because it’s boring without them. Even without competitions, I worked on my quads – I get bored without them.

Q: Do you believe a quintuple jump is possible?

Alexandra Trusova: Yes, I do. Well, Ilia (Malinin) will definitely do it. I think a quintuple is possible. I’m not sure about the axel, but I think regular quintuple jumps are possible.

Q: Have you ever tried a quintuple?

Alexandra Trusova: Yes, I have. I tried a lutz. I tried a quintuple toe loop with a harness. I can get four and a half rotations. I think if you train for it, it’s possible. I haven’t really trained for it – I just tried it for fun.”
