In an interview with TASS, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva stated that she is at peace with not competing at the Olympics. Here’s a translation of her comment.
“I tried several times, but eventually I realized that it probably wasn’t meant to be for me to go to the Olympics. However, it’s a destructive thought to constantly dwell on what could have happened if I had done something differently or think about what I should have changed.
This is an old topic for me, and I have come to terms with it. No one knows how things would have turned out if I had gone to Sochi or South Korea. I’ve accepted it and just live with what I have.
I am still considered a fairly in-demand athlete. I think that’s not a coincidence — it means there’s something in me, something valuable. It shows that Olympic gold or medals aren’t the only things that define popularity in shows,” Tuktamysheva said.
The figure skater also shared her opinion on competing under a neutral flag.
“For me, the answer is very clear — if there’s an opportunity to compete, then you should compete, in my opinion. I support the idea that athletes should have the choice to go to competitions, no matter under which flag,” Tuktamysheva stated.
