Ami Nakai (18), who won the bronze medal in women’s figure skating at the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February, appeared on the Nippon TV program “120 Million Thanks: Song of Gratitude Festival” broadcast on the May 6th, where she was brought to tears. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.
While being interviewed in the studio, Nakai was surprised by the appearance of NiziU, a nine-member girl group she loves, meeting them for the first time.
When the members congratulated her, saying, “Congratulations on your Olympic bronze medal,” tears welled up in Nakai’s eyes. She said that her favorite song is “Step and a step,” and the group began performing it right in front of her.
“When I was having a hard time, I would listen to their songs to lift my spirits before competitions. That song saved me so many times. They were so cute. Someday, I’d love to skate to a NiziU song. Thank you so much.”
She brought a fan and penlight, which are used at live concerts, and remained visibly emotional throughout.
She posted, “I got to meet my beloved NiziU for the first time… It was truly a happy moment,” and posted a photo of herself smiling while holding a fan and penlight for her favorite member, MIIHI.
