Jason Brown told that he has no plans to retire although he admitted that he has considered it multiple times.
“Jason Brown announced that he has no plans to retire.
The 29-year-old American figure skater will perform at the World Championships taking place in Montreal from March 20th to 24th.
“I knew from the start of the season that I would compete and participate in every major competition. Last year was the opposite – I was unsure about everything, I just made decisions step by step.
After Beijing, I was at the peak of my shape, and that wave carried me for about a year. This year was different, I had to pull myself together and start everything from scratch. As a result, I didn’t have the energy for new programs.
My thinking has changed: I no longer compete thinking about which place I will take. This no longer matters to me, I spent too many years in the race for scores, and it used to motivate and stimulate me to work.
Now, I have learned a lot about myself, I continue to learn but I have become much calmer. I love figure skating, the fans, and the performances. This is my life and I am just happy to be here at the World Championships.
This season I spent a lot of time in shows and I think I have grown in presenting and interpreting my programs. I flew here directly from a show in Japan – I was invited by Yuzuru Hanyu. Working with him is always an incredible experience. He approaches show preparations as responsibly and as focused as he used to prepare for competitions. I have trained alongside him for many years on the same skating rink and I can definitely say: he hasn’t changed at all. I learn this professionalism from him because a show is also work.
Yuzu and his mother warmly sent me off to the World Championships and wished me luck.
After the World Championships, I will take a small break from performances – I will focus on the preparation for the next season. We will be doing new programs – both for competitions and for shows. But yes, I have no plans to quit sports,” Jason Brown’s words are conveyed by Sports correspondent Maya Bagriantseva.
After the short program Jason spoke about the course of the season, returning to old program and support from his coaching team.
“I know I’m skating for the audience. Yes, I’m always very nervous, even though I try not to show it.
The season has been challenging, and at a competition in Warsaw last fall, I realized that continuing to skate based on old reserves wouldn’t be possible, I needed to seriously regroup and prepare differently. Honestly, I wasn’t ready. That’s when I had a serious conversation with my coaches which helped.
I decided to take a break mid-season, in November. I thought a lot. I have contemplated retiring more than once or twice. At one point, it seemed to me that I wouldn’t cope, that I had taken on too much, and couldn’t handle it any longer.
But I received significant help from my loved ones, coaches, and our federation. They were all ready to stand by and support when needed. I approached Tracy Wilson and my psychologist several times, declaring I couldn’t continue anymore. I am grateful to them for providing support during those times.
At the start of the season, I honestly told the officials from the federation that I had a certain number of contractual commitments that I must fulfil. I had many shows planned, and I couldn’t refuse them. It means a lot to me that they agreed to work with me under such conditions.
So I continue my journey, not looking back at others. I have my own path, my own story. Yes, sometimes it may be difficult, but with such a supportive team as I have, there’s nothing to fear,” Jason Brown’s words were conveyed to Sports.ru correspondent Maya Bagriantseva.

I beg to differ when it comes to Jason‘s technical ability. His spins are top-notch, technically. His triple jumps are textbook. His footwork is technically superior to most. And I don’t think there’s anyone who is more technically proficient at the ina Bauer, and a spiral. That all takes technical ability. The only thing he doesn’t have is a four revolution jump. And when I’m watching program, whether the jump is three or four revolutions doesn’t make it any better to watch.
I have followed you since 2014 and would love to see you reprise your Riverdance number. You have come so far since then! Your artistry and technical skills are the best and would elevate Riverdance to a breathtaking phenomenon!
I have loved watching you skate since 2014. You looked like you loved what you were doing and the scores were just there. I hope to see you continue on your quest, on your own path. I will always be a fan because your love of the program is so evident. Rock on, Jason.
I hope you don’t retire for a while. I understand that your programs are very different from the other top contenders, mostly because of quads vs triples. I don’t care. I love to watch you skate. You glad over the ice. You show feelings that others don’t. You pull the crowd right in. You perform for us, but with your heart. Thank you for your gift. It’s pure enjoyment.
Jason knows he does not have the technical skills to compete with the current group of figure skaters. He may have the artistic ability, but the judges still seeing to put more value/ emphasis on the technical components.
Jason,I have been following you ever since I saw you perform Riverdance in the Olympics. I was mesmerized!!!! Seeing you skate to Riverdance, that was absolutely amazing!!!! You are a very talented skater,I love everything you do,I wish I could get to your shows, but unfortunately they are too expensive and you don’t perform in Richmond, Va. Never give up on your dreams and above all,be true to yourself!! Remember, always give yourself the best that you can be and the medals don’t matter, it’s what matters to you that counts!!! God Bless you and your family young man man. I applaud you and so do my daughters, and grandchildren.
I am 80 yrs old and have been following Tracy, Brian and Jason for their entire careers. I love all of you! I watched you skate and still get lumps in my throat . Jason, I literlly get goosebumps and more often cry when you perform because I find you make me proud!! All America are proud. I find the grace, technique and your soul is what skating was meant to be. I am not impressed with all the jumps and the tech points are not as important as what you do. Keep up entertaning all the people like me!! Thank you for all you do!!
