On the December 11th, it was announced that Miura/Kihara would miss the Japanese Nationals due to partner’s ongoing lumbar spondylolisthesis. The pair also missed the GP series. The Vice Chairman of the Japan Skating Federation provided an update. Here’s a translation of his comment.

“While they have resumed training, the situation is not yet conducive for them to perform in front of everyone,” the Vice Chairman Ito explained.

Since the Japanese Nationals is the qualifying event for World Championships, concerns have arisen about the opportunities of the pair to compete at the major competitions of the season. But according to the information posted on Nikkansports, pair still can qualify for Worlds.

“In cases where an athlete who has finished in the top three in the World Championships in the past cannot participate due to unavoidable reasons such as injuries, they can still be considered for selection as a relief measure.”

In the announcement made on December 11th, the pair stated, “We aim to compete in the next event and look forward to skating in front of everyone again. We will continue to work hard in our training. Thank you for your ongoing support.”
