Grand-Prix Final 2016: short dance fashion review

Ice dance as always for the dessert) So, who was the most stylish and fashionable in the short dance?

Oh somehow short dance turned almost into a fashion disaster. I’m really afraid of competitions with more skaters in it)

Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue

Madison Hubbell Zachary Donohue

I honestly think their short dance is a disaster…..well, their costumes are not less disastrous. Ok, Zach you’re incredibly handsome and hot guy and actually can wear whatever you want. You want a completely black costume? No problem, since it highlights all advantages of your body. But Madison, what the hell is on you?! How such beautiful girl being conscious and in solid sanity can wear it?! No, I got the idea. This black laces and sporting underwear reminds me of D&G:

D&G

But D&G had NO blue stripes like on tracksuit! Feel the difference!

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron

Gabriella Papadakis Guillaume Cizeron

I always consider Gabriella and Guillaume as people with taste and good sense of style. So what happened? I like Guillaume’s blue trousers and jacket, actually these are the best parts of their outfits. There were no other options than black translucent tank shirt? Ok, maybe it super sexy, maybe I just has no taste in male fashion but what it has to do with Gabi’s dress? How these two things are matched together?! I have a weird suspicion that he forgot with whom he’s skating and matched his costume with Madison Hubbell’s um…… dress.

Tunics suit Gabriella a lot, but not this time. This one is too wide for her on the top and you can’t actually see the tiny golden finishing. In stead creates an impression that the dress is crumpled…..like she just woke up and went on the ice in her nightie.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir

Tessa Virtue Scott Moir

When I saw their Carmen for the first time, in clothes for practices I was impressed so much that any of her dresses couldn’t surpass that impression. From that moment I wanted to see Tessa skating in jumpsuit at competitions. Dreams came true, so who am I to say that I don’t like something?) I like Scott’s costume, it’s laconic and his sweater is stylish. Canadian guys have such stylish sweaters this season! Maybe they should launch their own line?) Tessa seems to be inspired by Prince’s purple costume:

Oh, another Prince’s costume…..this time thank goodness the fabric doesn’t change it color) I like the idea, I even like the jabot. The only thing I don’t like are those cuts on her hips……they make her look wider!

Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev

Ekaterina Bobrova Dmitri Soloviev

Another great improvement in style! Bobrova and Soloviev have never been style icons in figure skating, some of their costumes frankly made me laugh but this time they look really good. Dima has a nice jacket, I like it’s texture, it doesn’t look formal. Eventually Katya burned all her long skirts and wore a mini-dress. And it’s a great idea because she has beautiful long legs and it’s a crime not to show them. I like her sexy little black dress, the only thing that bothers me, it makes her torso a bit wider( But anyway great improvement. But I had a feeling that I’ve already seen something like that years ago……and yes I was right:

Sasha Cohen

Madison Chock and Evan Bates

Madison Chock and Evan BAtes

These are one of my most favorite costumes for the short dance this season. Great example of ready to wear trend in figure skating, when costumes look like a real clothes. Jeans, black sweaters and we’re ready to rock! Ah and Madison looks damn hot in her short top and skinny black jeans. Looking at them I have a thought “Ok, and where is their Harley-Davidson is parked?”

Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani

Maia Shibutani Alex Shibutani

Well, I wasn’t sure about the winners till the last moment. It was a tough competition in the US team) Shibs really surprised me, especially Maia. I didn’t expect her to wear trousers and to look so hot! She changed a top to even hotter one and I absolutely loved it! Maybe she should try a black boot covers to prolong the legs? Ah and Alex……. Do I even need to say that Alex looks like a man of my dreams? Hot, elegant, stylish!

For me, Madison Hubbell’s costume is just way too much for me. She’s a gorgeous girl, why all this? The blue stripes aren’t exactly a high point, and for me all that black mesh is just a little too…provocative. Maybe I sound like an old lady, but that’s my impression of things.

Right away when I saw them at Trophee de France, I thought Gabriella and Guillaume were wearing nighties. I thought they were trying to portray that “steamy bedroom scene in a movie I shouldn’t watch until I’m 18” look, but didn’t quite get it right. Her dress looks all wrinkled, and he really needs a shirt you can’t see right through (though I’m sure some ladies don’t mind).

Tessa and Scott’s costumes aren’t bad. Scott’s doesn’t really stand out to me, but that’s not a bad thing. For me Tessa’s jumpsuit is a little too busy, and designs on the hips always make you look wider even if you’re the size of Elizabet Tursynbaeva. But overall, good job.

I love the look of Katia and Dima’s costumes. She has such nice long legs that short little me is getting jealous. (Why do all the skaters have to be so gorgeous??? Just to make us normal people feel bad?)

Madison and Evan…well, Evan looks fine but I can’t stop wanting to be Madison. Us normal girls couldn’t pull off that look but wow, she looks pretty darn good.

Alex is as always handsome. I’m really impressed with Maia’s look, usually when there’s a brother-sister team, the couple isn’t allowed to look hot, but these two manage without seeming weird.

For me the costume of the event was Chock/Bates, with props to the Shibutanis and Bobrova/Soloviev.

Oh, some ladies managed to see the label of Guillaume’s underwear, there was a huge excitement, so I think they almost forgot about translucent t-shirt) But I have to ask again, how are their costumes matched with each other? For me it’s like they wear outfits from different sets of costumes. Like they were getting ready in the last minute and each put on first thing that has found in the wardrobe(

I think that Madison Hubbell’s designer is her enemy No.1! I still can’t forget that white something with wings from last season, that was making her look twice wider than she is.

“Why do all the skaters have to be so gorgeous??? Just to make us normal people feel bad?”
Oh yes) For 1 minute I stood next to Madison Chock and immediately got a huge desire to buy a lock for my fridge(

Gabriella and Guillaume’s costumes don’t match at all. But I don’t think the ladies mind.

Oh, poor Madison Hubbell and her wing dress. She’s a pretty girl; she deserves so much better!

All the skaters are just so pretty. I am insanely jealous.
