Aleksandr Galliamov answered the question of whether he could see himself still competing in sports at the age of 40.
“Q: Deanna Stellato-Dudek, the 40-year-old champion at the World Championships, was a phenomenon for many. Can you imagine still competing and winning at that age?
Aleksandr Galliamov: In the new season, I will be 25 years old. When I was 18 and looking at athletes who were 25, they seemed incredibly mature. I have some experience, but I don’t feel like an old athlete who should retire.
As for skating at 40, I can’t say for sure yet. I look at how Cristiano Ronaldo is still performing at a decent level as he approaches 40. It is something to think about,” said Aleksander Galliamov.
The figure skater also said that he wants to talk to Loena Hendrickx.
“Q: Belgian Loena Hendrickx said after winning the European Championships that she was ‘lucky that the Russian women were not competing.’ You shared a few jokes on this topic about the influence of the moon in spring. Have you spoken to her after this incident?
Aleksandr Galliamov: I sent her a message on Instagram, but she was probably afraid to respond, in case it was fake. I messaged her on WhatsApp, but the conversation didn’t really take off. I didn’t delete my message, so she still has time to reply. I’m really interested in having a chat,” said the World Champion in pairs skating.
