Evgenia, you have launched your own collection of hoodies with writings inspiring to do fitness for pleasure. It’s no secret that many girls find it difficult to develop in them a love of sports. What would you suggest? How to learn to love sports?

Evgenia Medvedeva: I am sure that motivation and pleasure are in the process itself. When you get pleasure from what you love. There is a long way to go to the first medals and awards. Preparation takes a lot of time, a lot of effort is invested every day. This is definitely not about the “here and now” result. Therefore, high expectations are the first step towards giving up. Seeing how girls demand too much of themselves and, without achieving quick victories, abandon hobbies, we, together with Nestle Fitness, launched the #fitnessforfun project. Its philosophy is very close to me. Therefore, since March, I have been actively talking and showing by my example that the path to the goal is not only about medals and awards, but above all – for pleasure. The hoodies capsule collection is one of the cool results of our collaboration with the brand. First of all, I want to convey to the girls that you shouldn’t look for motivation from the outside, but listen to yourself and encourage yourself for the smallest victories and achievements. I came up with the idea of making the mirrored writings, so that every time passing by the mirror, the girl would feel support and faith in herself. There is a very great power in us. It’s time to believe in it! To everyone who is just starting to do sports, I can advise to do it only at the call of your heart. Praising yourself for even small successes is an integral part of the road to victory. It is also very important to do sports not for approval of the others. Believe me, this is pointless!

Sports rivalry is familiar to you firsthand. Does the constant competition at work affect your private life?

Evgenia Medvedeva: Sports competition only tempers, because when there are so many rumors around, you simply stop paying attention to any speculation and concentrate only on what is important to you. On yourself. Over time, I learned to abstract and enjoy every moment, so I try to divide my personal life with my work life.

All winners have a desire to prove that they are the first. That is, you need to be persistent, purposeful, be able to stand your ground. Do these qualities spoil your personal life?

Evgenia Medvedeva: Any of our character traits, habits, behavioral features inevitably influence our personal life. This is as much a part of me as the love of delicious food, music, dancing, the toy Luna, which I consider to be my talisman. Therefore, it is simply impossible to exist apart from the will to victory, perseverance, dedication, or any of your other features. You, too, do not give up your dream and do everything to make it come true, right? So am I, absolutely the same living person!

How do you feel about constant comparisons with colleagues, about discussing your “common” or similar outfits with other skaters?

Evgenia Medvedeva: We are all constantly being compared to someone. If you delve into your memory, you will surely find a comparison with the “your mother friend’s daughter”, who, for example, studied better or baked apple pie more deliciously. In sports everything is similar, but even more complicated, because every appearance on the ice is almost a fashion show. I am pleased when people like my outfits, but I myself often look at the costumes of my colleagues, because this is part of the image. To an unprepared viewer, it may seem that figure skating is only about jumps and outfits, but in fact, music, movements, and even facial expressions decide. When the image is fully formed, art begins. It’s very cool that people around you notice it! So I am not offended by comparisons.

Are figure skating costumes expensive?

Evgenia Medvedeva: All costumes are sewn for one season for a specific program. It can be a little more expensive or cheaper. It cost a lot due to the manual work, a large and very painstaking work of a designer. Just imagine how is it to sew about a thousand beads on an outfit ?!

Can you list your favorite costumes? Are there any memorable stories associated with them?

Evgenia Medvedeva: It’s very difficult to decide, but probably my favorite dress is from the Memoirs of a Geisha program, in which I performed in the 2019/2020 season.

I can also remember the white flying dress, in which I presented an exhibition program to the song of Billie Eilish. By the way, there is a funny story about it: once before going on the ice, I accidentally added bandages to my hands and knees, which in the end perfectly complemented the image. And, of course, I can’t help but mention my image in Ilya Averbukh’s ice performance Anna Karenina, where I play Kitty. This is a truly unique costume, stylish, a bit avant-garde, but certainly immersive in the era. A real work of art.

What life hacks can you advise on keeping the perfect make-up and hairstyle? You always look perfect on the ice!

Evgenia Medvedeva: I take care of myself every day and cannot imagine life without my usual beauty routine. I love a variety of procedures, from face masks to an evening ritual with a night cream that I never miss. I started using decorative cosmetics very early, at the age of 10. At the call of my heart. I still can’t stop! You should always prepare carefully for going on the ice. It doesn’t matter how old you are – 6 or 18. Therefore, the love of makeup is born at a very early age. A bright make-up is part of the program, so it is impossible to imagine that the bun would fall appart or eyeliner would smear. To avoid this, only professional brands with mandatory fixing (spray, varnish) are used.

What character features distinguish true champions from ordinary athletes?

Evgenia Medvedeva: In any business, hard work, dedication and luck help to achieve success. In an amicable way, you should always know why you need to take this or that step, what it will give you later and whether you really need it now. If all the stars aligned, then the ultimate goal will certainly be achieved. The main thing is not to forget to have fun фтв утощн in the process!
