Panic around the waltz
Shocking news about ice dance. Two leading ice dancing teams are changing their shot dances.
Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje changed their short dance from Elvis Presley to Strausse. And they compete at Skate Canada next week.
They were not alone who decided to take a risk and change the short dance.
Madison Chock & Evan Bates also have changed the dance from Dark Eyes to “More” by Andrea Bocelli and “Unchained Melody” by Il Divo. And they are competing this week at Skate America.
Actually it will be their third short dance. Before Dark Eyes they tried Sleeping Beauty.
As for me it doesn’t look good when leading duets are not confident about what they are doing. I didn’t like both this dances but changes, uncertainty and hesitation are bad friends in ice dances. Especially in judges eyes. And what made them to make such a decicion? Bad feedback from judges? Too many “creative” waltzes? Honestly I haven’t seen a short dance of this season that is so amazing and strong that could make the leading teams be unsure about their own dances.
With such news, and unclear situation with the reigning World Champions I start to belive that Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte have pretty good chances if not to become a two time World Champions but at least to take a medal at Worlds.
The only good new is that we won’t see again Madison Chock’s half gipsy half Scheherazade dress.
