Let’s continue to discuss figure skating costumes. Today I’m going to take a closer look at pairs’ costumes.

Julianne Seguin and Charlie Bilodeau

Julianne Seguine Charli Bilodeau

Julianne and Charlie returned to an old program. I think if you’re going to use old program it’s always better to have a new costumes  It’s the easiest way to add some freshness and novelty. Charlie is definitely wears his old costume, not so sure about Julianne’s dress but the color is the same. Well, maybe they didn’t have enough time to sew new ones. I like the sky-blue color on young girls and I like the slight asymmetry in finishing. Lovely but not very interesting dress, oh and I’d gladly remove this fluttering something from her skirt. As for Charlie’s costume, I don’t like the color of his shirt. I has an impression that it has been washed many times in a wrong regime, so  the color faded.

Cheng Peng and Yang Jin

Cheng Peng Yang Jin

The rare case when I like the male costume more. I like the black shirt with wide sleeves, it gives a pretty romantic look. Red and blue inserts give some bright accents and help to match with her dress. A bit of sparkle from golden sequins and buttons. I like that he’s not wearing just shirt and trousers, and his costume is really well sewn and made with attention to details. I wish her dress was more fashionable. I like the blue and black color combination, but I don’t like this applique with squares. I also think that the dress has wrong proportions and makes her torso longer. What I really liked about this dress is nude illusion mesh! You don’t see it at all)

Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov

Evgenia Tarasova Vladimir Morozov

Costumes never have been Tarasova Morozov strong side but this season they somehow managed to get pretty outfits not in retro style at least for the short program. Looking at their costumes you immediately know this pair is going to show us some dances in their program. I really like her silver dress with silver-golden fringe on skirt! It looks so good in motion, as the skirt is dancing in tact of music. In spite of almost white color this dress doesn’t get lost on the ice. Vladimir’s costume is pretty simple (and I like it because her dress already grabs attention) but in style and matches Evgenia’s dress. Huge progress in style.

Natalia Zabijako and Alexander Enbert

Natalia Zabijako Alexander Enbert

Beautiful people in beautiful historical costumes, what can be better? Don’t be surprised, I do like some other things besides simple elegance) By the way, good historical costumes for figure skating it’s a difficult task, so I appreciate the challenge and would gladly praise a good result. Ah, ok you caught me, I like men in full uniform) The main danger with historical costumes is to get carried away and put as much details as possible. Don’t ever do it. Alexander in his hussar’s uniform looks damn good! I like Natalia’s empire dress with it tenderness, illusion of high waist, ribbon under her chest and puff sleeves. But I wish the sleeves were of the same fabric with the dress and I wish they chose a bit brighter color for the dress.

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford

Meagan Duhamel Eric Radford

I really like Meagan and Eric’s costumes for the short program. Their costumes are pretty laconic, modern and chic. Black looks so good on them. Costumes are well matched together due to the same finishing. Eric’s sweater is very stylish! And I absolutely love the idea of a jumpsuit for Meagan, because I think the mood of this program is to dynamic and decisive for a dress.

Xiaoyu Yu and Hao Zhang

Xiaoyu Yu Hoa Zhang

And my winners are Yu and Zhang. They looked gorgeous! Hao Zhang was brave enough to wear blue trousers instead of usual black. And I absolutely love his shirt! They definitely tried to add some romance to his look and they succeed. Wide sleeves, band-collar and neckline covered with silver rhinestone, the belt also in rhinestones. He looked fabulous and that’s for sure was a costume, not some clothes he bought in the nearest shop. Her dress looks like an evening gown with slight oriental notes. Perpaps I have such an impression because of this cut and the way they’ve decorated the bodice with tiny drappery. Oh and I love this bright blue color in combination with silver finishing.

I agree, I’m not a fan of Charlie’s shirt. Julianne looks fine but it’s very similar to last year’s dress.

Peng needs some help with her dress, but it’s a nice idea. If you could rearrange the pattern a little and tweak the style, it would be lovely.

I am in love with Evgenia Tarasova’s short program dress. She looks like the stylish flappers from the 1920s. She really is a pretty lady!

They did good not to overdo Alexander Enbert’s costume, thank god. I was afraid it would be like Nathan Chen’s FP one. *shudder* Natalia looks nice but for me the dress is a little plain.

Meagan and Eric’s costumes are really sharp. It’s a rock-and-roll kind of program and they have great costumes to match. I like how the black pants extend her lines, too.

I really love the colors of Yu and Zhang’s costumes. The only thing I would change is that I’d remove the cutout in her bodice. Just a little distracting for me, to be honest. But overall they really look fabulous!

My favorite costumes of the short program would be Meagan/Eric’s, Yu/Zhang’s, and Evgenia/Vladimir’s.

As you can find out from my Men’s free program fashion review, I liked Nathan’s costume for FP))) Yes, it has lots of ditails but if you google the Kipchaks’ costumes and Polovetsian’s costumes from opera Prince Igor, you’d see that it’s totally in style.
