Alexandra Trusova, the 2022 Olympic silver medalist, responded to a question about whether she would like to learn a backflip on ice. Here’s a translation of their comments.
“Q: Would you like to try a backflip on the ice?
Alexandra Trusova: I used to want to. After the Olympics, I even told my coaches that I wanted to learn. But then I heard a scary story about someone who did a backflip and landed on their head. That made me put it off – I decided not to do it.
And now, when everyone is already doing it, it doesn’t seem as interesting.
Of course, it’s spectacular and cool, but you don’t get extra points for it. Only if it’s for a show… Well… I don’t know. Maybe someday I’ll want to. With my competitive spirit, maybe yes. But I’ve never even done a backflip on a trampoline, only forward.”
The 2022 Olympic silver medalist also named the most common myth she’s heard about herself.
“Q: What’s the most common myth you’ve heard about yourself?
Alexandra Trusova: That I’m fearless, but that’s not true. I’m afraid of a lot of things. I’m just not afraid of falling on my head when I’m rotatinf. It would be strange – I’d have to completely lose concentration to fall on my head while rotating. So I’m not afraid to rotate, that’s true. But the idea that I’m not afraid of anything at all – that’s not true.”
