World champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva explained the concept behind her program on domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about this issue in society. Here’s a translation of her comment.

“The program was choreographed by Ilia Averbukh and his team – Albena Denkova, Elena Maslennikova, Zhenya Prisyazhny, Viola Shchepetilnikova, Ksyusha Zubareva, with additional help from Elizaveta Navislavskaya. The idea to focus on domestic violence was mine. Honestly, I thought Ilia wouldn’t agree, so I’m very grateful that he did. In my opinion, we managed to convey the main message.

For some reason, it’s not customary to talk about this in our society. Victims of abuse usually remain silent – some out of fear, false shame, or perceived negative consequences. Those affected cannot escape the vicious cycle. Mostly, women and children suffer, but aside from sympathy, they rarely receive real help. At present, there is no specific law against domestic violence in our country. I felt it was important to draw attention to this issue in my program.

The idea was inspired by a song from the Spanish singer Rosalía’s album. After last year’s program with gloves, I wanted to create something completely different, something on a social theme. In Rosalía’s song, I unexpectedly heard exactly what I wanted to express.

If the glove program was technically and choreographically challenging, requiring me to show a change of mood, this new program was not only physically demanding but also needed to be presented with the right emotional depth.

The costume we created was a means of expressing the idea. Every movement had to be worked out so it fit organically into the storyline. Choreography, emotional expression, facial expressions – everything was important; there was no room for insincerity in this program.

I understood that it’s harder to win over the audience with emotions of pain and fear. But I wanted to create such a program and raise this topic at the ‘Russian Challenge,’” Tuktamysheva said.
