The award ceremony for the team event at the Beijing Olympics will take place on August 7 in Paris. Team Japan will receive silver medals. Before it became known that Shona Uno won’t be able to attend the ceremony in Paris. He made an announcement on his Instagram page and here’s a translation of his comment.
“Regarding the medal ceremony for the Beijing Olympics team silver medal:
After consulting with coach Stephane, it was decided to respectfully decline participation in the medal ceremony as it coincided with the ice show in Switzerland which had been scheduled since last year. I am incredibly proud that all the Japanese figure skating athletes were able to achieve such wonderful results, and I am very grateful for the fantastic opportunity to have a medal ceremony like this.
I recently heard that the ceremony would be held soon, and although I am sad that I cannot participate myself, I am happy that the team came together to achieve such a result, and I treasure this as a wonderful memory for my future,” Uno posted.
