Here’s a translation of Wakaba Higuchi’s comments in anticipation of her return to Grand-Prix series after a break posted on nikkansports.

“During the official practice at the Grand Prix de France, banners with messages of support were raised on the stands, and Wakaba expressed her gratitude, saying, “There are many people cheering for me, and I can feel their support. I feel a unique tension in international competitions. I hope to stay focused and not be overwhelmed by it.”

For both her short program and free skate, Higuchi has recorded her own voice. The SP includes the sound of her inhaling, while the free skate features singing in the latter part. She embraced choreographer Shae-Lynn Bourne’s idea, saying, “I like to sing at the same level as everyone else, but I can’t produce a voice that’s fit for others to hear (laughs).”

As for her goals for the season, Wakaba mentioned striving for “mental refreshment” and delivering something unique through her skating instead of solely focusing on past achievements.”
