Skate America 2016: ladies free program fashion review

Need to say that all girls looked fabulous! But let’s discuss dress from ladies’ free program at GP Skate America 2016.

Gracie Gold

Gracie Gold

Ouch…..looked like Gracie was skating naked….just in golden sparkles. Was it intentional? If not I have only two possible explanation – she didn’t try on the dress before, or it looks a bit differently in real life. Such nude illusions are great for runway show but not for sport competition. However, I think she should keep the dress for gala, it will look completely different under the spotlights. Also want to point out a great hairdo and hair accessory!

Mai Mihara

Mai Mihara

It’s a lovely dress and a lovely color. Good choice for a young girl. It’d be on a high place in my junior fashion charts, but for senior level we all expect something more special. I also hope she will think about beautiful hairdo.

Roberta Rodeghiero

Roberta Rodeghiero

I like such laconic dresses, simple cut, moderate amount of sparkles) Such an elegant color combination. High waistline visually prolongs legs. Roberta looks great, but I wish her skirt was a little bit longer and completely opened boots. I hate such tights, they spoil all impression!

Serafima Sakhanovich

Serafima Sakhanovich

I like the noble gray shade. The top of the dress is very interesting and modern. It slightly reminds me of Victoria’s Secret swimwear collection. Such design and cut suits Serafima, she looks feminine. I just don’t really like the ombre effect on the skirt. I’d remove it or make a more smooth transition from grey to white.

Angelina Kuchvalska

Angelina Kuchvalskay

Deep blue is very popular this season) Just the color of the season) But I quite like it, it look good on the ice and suits almost everyone. I need to say I underestimated this dress on video, but then at photos noticed lots of interesting details. This corset, collar, finishing on the neckline make me think of Queen Elizaveta’s dresses. And fantastic cut on the back! Like a stained-glass windows in the medival church.

Mariah Bell

Mariah Belll

Lovely ice princess dress. I like dresses with sleeves. Simple cut, rhinesones are used wisely. Mariah look great and elegant. White is a tricky color, she was brave to chose it! But she’s in a great shape, so she definately can wear white dress without any thoughts that it’d add some extra kilos)

So Youn Park

So Youn Park

So Youn becomes such a stylish girl! Dresses, hairdo, makeup, everything is chic and has an expensive look. I want to point interesting translucent mesh – polka dot. I honestly, haven’t seen such before. Moderate amount of sequins. Everything made with taste and she also look very feminine and slim.

Kanako Murakami

Kanako Murakami

Wow! I didn’t expect Kanako to look so chic! I love how black is flows into blue + tiny silver finishing……looks like night sky with stars. This plunging V neckline reminds me of Tessa Virtue’s dress for Carmen. Kanako looked stunning, and so slim! I also liked her makeup!

Gabrielle Daleman

Gabrielle Daleman

Another good example of my favorite rule “chose something one” – either interesting cut, or nonstandard color, or lots of finishing. For both sp ans fd Gabrielle chose finishing. The cut of the dress is very simple, the main idea is sparkling finishing. The dress has very expensive look! But I’m a bit tired of blue dresses for program to Gershvin! Come on, there’s plenty of other colors!

Mao Asada

Mao Asada

Mao on contrary decided to have almost sequins-free dress. But it’s Mao. She doesn’t need a sparkling dress to shine. Beutiful laces on the bodice, interesting and not typical skirt. Gorgeous, elegant and sexy dress. Loved it!

Ashley Wagner

Ashley Wagner

It definately was a dress of the night! It reminds me of Jenny Packham’s designs. Perfect choice for this program and music! Fantastic finishing, good execution of ombre effect. With all it’s brightness the dress doesn’t distract from Ashley and her skating. It’s very important, because the dress should only highlight the beauty of the skater, not overshadow her.

Usually I’m not a fan of gray and silver for ladies, but Ashley really pulls it off. She’s such a bold lady that something more subtle looks beautiful.

I agree that Gracie’s costume is very close to her skin color. I would like it if the dress was a little more pink, like Meagan Duhamel’s free program dress this year.

Kanako definitely looked chic. And Mao and Gabrielle were stunning :)

So Youn Park’s dress rather reminds me of a subtler version of Adelina Sotnikova’s last year, you know the one with the sequined heart? Maybe that’s just me…

Gracie’s dress is very fashionable, skin-color dresses are very popular among designers. But they need different lightning. That’s why I wish she tries it for gala.

Yes, different lighting would make it so fabulous. White rink lights are not always flattering to gorgeous costumes. Cross your fingers that it ends up in the gala someday.
