Inspired by Frida
At the Russian test skates Elena Ilinykh and Ruslan Zhiganshin performed their free dance for the first time. They skated without costumes but Elena had an accessory on her head. So, I started to think how their future costumes could look like.
A lot of famous designers make their collections based on inspiration of Frida Kahlo’s paintings, her style and personality. I found some dresses that as for me can be a great prototype for Elena’s dress:
I hope for bright colors and racy patterns! Perfect chance to add some interesting patterns to the figure skating costumes. But they need to be really careful with proportions and the length of the skirt. And with such brightness of Elena’s dress for Ruslan they need to think of something simple and moderate.
For the test skates Elena wore a wreath and it got not very pleasant feedback. But she definitely need to think about hairstyle because it’s almost the signature of the Frida Kahlo’s style. Of course it must be adapted for the figure skating realities, nothing can fall on ice. So, I think of some moderate variations of hairstyle with braids, ribbons or flowers like this:
And of course one of the best places to search for the inspiration for the Frida’s modern and fashionable costume is Dolce and Gabbana 2015 Summer collection:
Anyway I’m excited and can’t wait to see the costumes. Elena Ilinykh has a good sense of style, so I hope we can expect gorgeous costumes!
