In an interview with Sports correspondent Maya Bagriantseva, French choreographer Benoit Richaud expressed his willingness to continue working with top Russian skaters, stating he sees no problem in collaborating with them. Here’s a translation.

“Yes, I’m going to Russia, I’ll spend nine days in Novogorsk. I’ll be working with Russian ice dancers, and at the beginning of next week, I’ll choreograph a short program for Alexandra Trusova. It’s a pity that visas are so difficult right now, but as you see – with Alexandra, everything worked out in the best way,” Richaud said.

It was previously reported that Richaud will also choreograph a short program for Evgeni Semenenko and free dances for the duos Vasilisa Kaganovskaya–Maxim Nekrasov and Maria Fefelova–Artem Valov.

Richaud also commented on working with Russian skaters:

Benoit Richaud: I don’t see any problem in collaborating with Russian figure skaters. I would be very interested in creating programs for the strongest Russian skaters – especially pairs and ladies. And also for the new generation of Japanese athletes, as there are some very interesting skaters there as well.

Q: You’re currently the only foreign choreographer willing to work with Russians. Aren’t you afraid of backlash?

Benoit Richaud: This is my third time coming to work in Russia, and I don’t see any problem with it. Moreover, I know that after seeing me, other choreographers are now also willing to take on Russian skaters.”
