Yelim Kim shared her thoughts on her performance at the Grand Prix. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.

“I made a lot of mistakes today, which I feel very sorry about,” she told in the mixed zine after skating her short program. She mentioned that after enduring injuries and problems with her skate blades during Skate Canada, she has put effort into resolving and improving these issues. She solemnly responded about this competition, “I came here hoping to see improvements thereafter.”

When asked about how she feels coming to the NHK Trophy, she answered, “My first NHK was a very good memory. Since Japan is the closest among the Grand Prix and there is no need for time zone adjustments, I think Japan is the best Grand Prix to attend.”

As for the free program to “Je suis malade” she reflected: “I was quite worried as many things were not going well today,” adding, “I’m relieved that I could finish without any injuries or other issues.” Asked about her overall performance in the free skate, she cautiously expressed, “Scores are important, but I think it’s a stage where I should concentrate on myself rather than on scores or rankings. In that regard, I think it was a somewhat satisfactory performance.”

When asked about her goals for the remaining season, Kim responded, “Rather than craving immediate results, I want to focus on myself and concentrate on achieving even small improvements.” Responding to a foreign journalist’s question about any recent challenges she’s been feeling, Kim mentioned, “There are indeed many issues with boots, injuries or my condition not improving yet,” but firmly added, “Lately I’ve been feeling quite strained emotionally. I’ve realized from my long career that if my mind is strong, I can manage other issues as well.”

She did not forget to express her thanks to her fans “There were fans from Japan, as well as fans who came from Korea. Whether I perform well or not, their consistent support feels increasingly precious and truly energizing as my seniority grows. I want to repay them with better performances as soon as possible.”
