Hungarian figure skaters Maria Pavlova and Alexei Sviatchenko performed a throw quadruple loop during practice. The pair trains in Sochi under Dmitri Savin and Fedor Klimov. Here’s a translation.
Maria Pavlova spoke about learning the throw quadruple.
“I dreamed of doing a throw quad for two years. I asked my coaches many times to let me try, but they were worried – of course, it’s risky.
Now, I finally convinced them: the Olympic season is behind us, so it’s not as scary to take risks. At the beginning of this week, we started working on the throw triple loop – making many attempts and building up the jump. Yesterday, I made my first attempt at the quad, and today I landed it successfully.
The throw salchow isn’t an option for me; it’s not my jump. But I feel confident and comfortable with the loop, so we decided to start with that. Previously, only the Russian pair Kawaguti–Smirnov had done this throw.
No one expected us to succeed so quickly. Honestly, I’m shocked – and so are the coaches. Now we’re thinking about the throw quad flip, which no one has done yet. Of course, it’s much more dangerous, but it’s interesting.
Lesha supports me and says he’s ready to try anything I suggest,” Pavlova told Maya Bagryantseva.
