Ice dancer Dario Cirisano has spoken about his return to Russia and his new partnership with Elizaveta Pasechnik. Previously, he skated with Czech figure skater Denisa Cimlova has ended, and they trained in Italy. Here’s the translation of Dario’s comments posted on his Telegram Channel.
“Hello, everyone! My ‘Odyssey’ has come to an end, and I’m back home. I always knew it, but I fully felt it from a distance – my home is in Russia.
There’s so much I want to say, but I’ll start from the beginning. First and foremost, I want to express my immense gratitude to all those who supported me throughout these 9 months. It was a challenging but very interesting time, filled with various events.
During this short period, I had to make many crucial decisions regarding the continuation of my sporting career. When our partnership with Ira (Irina Khavronina) came to an end in January, I had to rethink everything and move forward.
I didn’t have a burning desire to leave Russia, nor was I chasing international competitions at the time. There was no suitable available female partner for me in Russia. When I tried with Denisa, I thought, ‘Why not?’ My family supported me both morally and financially. It’s essential to me to be on equal footing; I don’t accept that the parents of a partner pay for me.
As it turned out, our partnership with Denisa didn’t work out. For a partnership to succeed, numerous factors must align, and not everything depends on our wishes. The main thing is that we remained good friends, understanding each other and accepting the situation without any hard feelings.
It was a very valuable experience for both of us. We traveled to Canada for a training camp, which was a long-held dream of mine and Denisa’s as well. I’m very happy that I had the opportunity to work with Barbara (Fusar-Poli) and her coaching staff again.
I’ve known Barbara for many years, and we’ve been in touch all these years. She congratulated me on my victories and shared my joy; I love her very much and am grateful for her understanding. She is a true professional. The same can be said for the entire coaching staff – Roberto, Corrado, and Lukas.
And now I’m back home, with plenty of work ahead! The absence of international competitions doesn’t frighten me because there are many strong pairs in Russia, and if you can withstand the internal competition, then you have nothing to fear in international competitions. So, I want to say that everything happens for the best.
