Skate Canada 2016: ladies short program fashion review
Time to discuss figure skating fashion. Need to say, I’m surprised, second GP in a row all ladies are dress pretty well, there were no total disasters)
DaBin Choi
I like the idea of this dress, but I think it lacks “expensive look”. Maybe, this dress should have a skirt with fringe not just a fringe)
Yuka Nagai
Lovely color and I like one-shoulder design. I also appreciate moderate amount of finishing. But it’s a bit juniorish and not really memorable. I think nice hairdo and makeup always can improve situation a bit.
Rika Hongo
I love the finishing with black and purple rhinestones on the top and asymetrical skirt. But I don’t really like the nude illusion on the belly and this “fiery applique”, it looks a bit old fashioned. Generally, it’s a good choice for Rika, such design prolongs her neck and hide problems with posture.
Joshi Helgesson
This dress reminds me of Mariah Bell dress for the SP, which I discussed here. It’s like find 10 differences) I like both dresses, and for both I have the same suggestion: girls, you should think of a hairdo and some hair accessories in 20-30th style.
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva
I like that multi-layer trend appears in figure skating costumes. I also like that Elizaveta’s dress stands out among lots of traditional ice-princess dresses. It’s definately can be her thing – light, translucent costumes with volume. Why not? At least it something memorable. But I wish her dress was a little bit longer.
Na Hyun Kim
Wow! I really like this dress! Simple and stylish. But I don’t really get it how this dress corresponds with Whitney Houston’s “I will always love you” song) It’d look better in some program to a rock music)
Alaine Chartrand
Alaine also chose a little black dress. I think Ashley Wagner was her inspiration for both – program and dress) I like the nude illusion parts on the bodice and tiny cut on the bodice – look sexy. Little fringe on the skirt looks great in motion and collar add some spark and “expensive look”. But I think that American armhole is for girls with skinny shoulders(
Evgenia Medvedeva
I always appreciate when young girls don’t try to look older and chose age appropriate dresses. I like the sky-blue color, light skirt and tasteful finishing on the bodice. But I think they moved the waistline too low and the dress looks a bit disproportional. And I’d gladly remove the gloves.
Kaetlyn Osmond
I like the idea an deep blue color, it suits Kaetlyn a lot. Very beautiful finishing on the half-corset. And the scarf fits the whole concept and look romantic.
Satoko Miyahara
Love this dress! It just gorgeous! Great choice for such statuesque girl as Satoko. Lovely tender light blue color look so good with tiny silver finishing. Everything is so beautiful and refined. I also like dresses with the sleeves) The only thing I have doubts about – green flashes on the underskirt.
Mirai Nagasu
It was hard to chose the best dress, I was hesitating between Satoko and Mirai. They both are stunning! Yes, usually I don’t like lots of finishing but sometimes I just can’t help myself) Mirai’s dress is fantastic and inspite of lots of rhinestones look elegant. Love the deep purple color and silver pattern on the bodice. Also want to point out excellent choice of nude illusion mesh!

Love Kaetlyn’s dress. Elizaveta’s and Alaine’s are beautiful, as well!
I love Kaetlyn’s dress from the FP even more)
I think Elizaveta’s dress was a very nice concept, and seems to suit her, but you’re right, it should be longer. And I would prefer a little more color.
Evgenia’s dress is such a beautiful blue, though I agree to ditch the gloves.
I loved Kaetlyn’s scarf :)
Satoko looked beautiful, it reminds me of the queen’s dress from the “Frozen” movie.
Mirai looks stunning. I love the dark purple shade against the silver, it’s breathtaking.
