Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin, who are in second place after the short program at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany, spoke about their performance, their preparation for the Olympic season, and the valuable assistance they received from skating legend Katarina Witt. Here’s a translation of their comments given in an interview with Sports correspondent Maya Bagriantseva.
How did the short program go?
Minerva Fabienne Hase: It was a decent start. Of course, there’s still a lot to work on, but we’re happy overall. You can really feel that it’s an Olympic season – every pair already looks very well-prepared, and there’s no room to relax.
Nikita Volodin: We’re not at 100% yet – this is the first competition of the season, and we still have to get used to the new programs. We worked a lot on our short program and reworked it multiple times, so it’s not fully polished yet.
Honestly, I’ll admit we were both very nervous today. At one point, it felt like our legs had turned to jelly. When I get stressed, I tend to rush through the program, and that’s why we got a bit out of sync during the spin. But that’s normal for the start of the season, and we’ll adjust soon enough.”
On Katarina Witt’s Support
Minerva Fabienne Hase: Katarina Witt helped us pay for our costumes this season. We only recently got to know her, and now she’s sharing her Olympic experiences with us. We’re proud to have her as a mentor.
Over the summer, she asked how else she could help us, and it just so happened that we didn’t have enough money for new costumes. The German federation doesn’t cover costume expenses, so we had to figure it out on our own. We’re incredibly grateful to her for her support.
