Irina Kostyleva, mother of figure skater Elena Kostyleva, made controversial claims regarding pharmacological support within Eteri Tutberidze’s team in her Telegram channel, “Mom Irina’s Living Room.” Kostyleva suggested that such support was not equally provided to all skaters but was reserved for top-performing athletes since pharmacological assistance is highly expensive. She also hinted that Daria Usacheva did not receive this support during her attempts to master the triple axel, which, according to her, led to injury. Here’s a translation of her comment.

Here’s what Irina wrote:

“Are you only thinking about the Sarnovskiys? Who in Khrustalny could have given them pharmacological support? Who needed them there? Eteri didn’t even officially take the Sarnovskys onto her team — they were merely at the try-out.”

She further described an incident she observed involving a skater and her mother:

“A girl whose mother demanded the same pharmacological support that was reserved for the ‘top three stars’ futilely attempted to jump a triple Axel. But she was scared, and frankly, she was already, pardon the slang, grown too big, a tall girl (she used the word workhorse in Russian). She lacked the courage. She was scared – I saw it myself. The girl’s mother hoped for help from the coach, but the resources weren’t allocated to her because it was too expensive. As a result, she couldn’t jump it and ended her career due to a terrible injury.”

Kostyleva also claimed that responsibility was unfairly placed on the skater’s mother:

“They blamed the mother, even though the coaches and doctors were aware of her diagnosis for two years.”

    Well, I don’t believe a single word.

If she means ‘doping’, she should say ‘doping’. If she means ‘medical care’, she should say ‘medical care’. There is no such thing as ‘pharmaceutical support’.
