Anjelika Krylova explained why Kaganovskaya could not continue her career with Angelopol. Before the start of the 2023/24 season, the ice dancing pair of Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Valeriy Angelopol split up. Vasilisa teamed up with Maxim Nekrasov.

“Anjelika Krylova: In Vasilisa’s situation with Valeriy, the boy started facing a crisis. Of course, I was absolutely against it; I was shocked that it even happened. I tried to bring them together; they trained for a month, then he came again and said, ‘I won’t do it.’ Overall, I tried.

At some point, I realized that it was futile and maybe even unnecessary. And then, I let them go.

Q: If you could compare the two pairs: Kaganovskaya – Angelopol and Kaganovskaya – Nekrasov, what are the weaknesses and strengths of each?

Anjelika Krylova: Valeriy is Valeriy, junior skating. Vasilisa with Nekrasov is a master-class pair, a completely different caliber.

I think they are absolutely different categories. Because with Valeriy, it was something youthful, emotional, with a sort of infatuation, harmony, and a certain youthful charisma. Visually, they were very harmonious.

In terms of potential, I don’t think they would have gone further because Valeriy is short in stature and too frail for her. I think Maxim was the best choice to pick and move forward with.”
