Mai Mihara (2) commented on her performance at Grand Prix de France 2024. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.
Mai Mihara took 7th place with a total score of 174.93.
“I was able to approach it with a really good tension, and for the first time this season during the six-minute warm-up, I managed to complete a triple-triple jump combination that I had practiced, and I was able to keep my focus really well once the competition started, so I feel good about that,” she told about her short program. “The only regret is the last flip, but it’s not over yet, so I plan to use today’s regrets constructively in the reflection meeting and approach tomorrow with determination,” she shared her mindset for the free program.
“I spent a really long time reflecting on my performance, it’s been a while since I’ve done it, but I usually have a self-reflection session after a competition,” Mai told. “Yesterday, it somehow turned into one of the longest reflection sessions I’ve ever had by myself. Of course, there were good points as well, but I also found a lot of new challenges I want to address. However, regarding the free skate, I strongly feel like I wanted to give it my all.”
“It started pretty much right after the competitions ended. Somehow, even when I went to the venue, it was constantly on my mind. I didn’t start the reflection session with the videos until I returned to the hotel. Quite a few hours, I suppose…” she explained more.
Unsatisfied with her performance in the free program, she reflected, “I strongly wanted to skate more perfectly, but given the current situation, I was able to skate calmly and concentrate before each jump, despite feeling nervous. There are still many details that need refining, but I think it was good that I could make eye contact with many people in the audience during the four minutes of my program.”
Her next GP event is planned to be the fifth competition in Finland (15th-17th, Helsinki).
