Loena Hendrickx’s spoke about Here’s a translation of her comments.
“I’ve had a good year. But I’ve also struggled a lot. Mentally, it certainly wasn’t always easy. I’m 24, I’m one of the oldest female single figure skaters at the world level. That also makes it not easy. I think much more about everything. When I was young, everything came naturally,” said Loena
“Mentally, the challenge gets bigger every year. But I’ve found the joy again, and the pressure is left behind me. I really enjoy making Belgium proud with my performances. I love the sport, and it’s a shame if that would diminish because of the pressure. That’s why I’ve learned that I skate and perform for myself.”
“Belgian gold and silver at the European Championships are possible,” said former single skater Kevin Van Der Perren.
“That’s, of course, easy to say,” laughs Hendrickx. “But the chance is certainly there. It remains a snapshot. Every millimeter difference from takeoff can be crucial. We just have to keep both feet on the ground, work hard, and make sure we’re ready.”
As for the World Championships, Loena shared, “I can only say that I can be satisfied with a podium place. But I know that will also be difficult. If I deliver two good performances, it’s certainly possible.”
“Is the world title possible? I think gold is definitely too ambitious. I can only win gold if last year’s world champion (Japanese Kaori Sakamato) makes a huge mistake, and I stay completely flawless.”
“But we just assume that everyone will skate great. And then you have to be satisfied with what you have achieved.”
