Coach Sergei Davydov comments on the suspension of Russian figure skaters.
“Q: For the second season in a row, we have been continuously discussing how much athletes lose without the opportunity to compete in international competitions. But what do coaches lose in this situation?
Sergei Davydov: I believe that, in reality, it’s inappropriate for figure skating to complain right now. Yes, we have been removed from the global arena, but within the country, Russian figure skating is experiencing its maximum surge. It is the number one sport, broadcasted by Channel One, with a vast number of various competitions and numerous athletes. Everyone is engaged in their craft.
Perhaps someone like Tutberidze and her team has lost something by not being able to participate in the Olympics or World Championships, but personally, I have not lost anything. I believe many other coaches of my caliber feel the same way.”
