Figure skater Kao Miura, who won the Four Continents Championships and the World Junior Championships in the men’s category last season, has pledged to take further steps forward in his career.
On the 7th, he attended the 2023 “Ugetsu Sports Athlete Support Project” certification ceremony and the “Ugetsu Sports Award” presentation ceremony for outstanding international competition results held at a hotel in Tokyo. He received this award for the first time and reflected on his successful season, saying, “I felt that the hard work I put in over the past year was worthwhile.”
In his first full season competing as a senior, Miura said, “I was able to experience both good and bad things.” In February of this year, at the age of 17 years and 8 months, he became the youngest-ever champion of the senior Four Continents Championships. In March, he won a gold medal at the World Junior Championships, becoming the sixth Japanese man to do so since Shoma Uno in 2015. He stated, “There was nothing but positives to be gained from this experience for my future career. This year, I want to give it my all, using all the experience I gained last year.”
This season, Miura has already participated in the Gensan Summer Cup in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, and the Kinoshita Trophy Competition in Uji City, Kyoto. He took on four performances over three days and achieved the remarkable feat of winning two consecutive days. He said, “I’ve been able to adjust really well for the summer competitions, and just a couple of days ago, I got my quadruple loop back. It’s about time to show my true abilities, step up my game, and take each competition seriously. I hope to achieve the best results at the Japanese Nationals.”
