Alexandra Trusova, the 2022 Olympic silver medalist, shared her thoughts on the results of the women’s figure skating event at the 2026 Milan Olympics. Here’s a translation of her comments.

The gold medal was won by American Alysa Liu, with Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto taking silver and Ami Nakai earning bronze.

Q: How do you feel about people comparing the women’s skaters at the 2026 Olympics to your program from the 2022 Games?

Alexandra Trusova: Oh. Honestly, I don’t feel any particular way. Of course, it’s nice, but I believe everyone deserved their wins and podium finishes – they worked for four years for this. It’s a different time. Why not compare to 2014 or 2018? What’s the difference? That was then, this is now.

I think it’s fine to compare, but there’s no need to say they’re worse. That seems strange to me. These athletes worked hard and earned their medals.

Q: Did you watch the 2026 Olympics? If so, whose performance did you like?

Alexandra Trusova: I don’t usually judge the women, but among the men, Shaidorov skated very well, definitely. Objectively, the others couldn’t handle the nerves.”
