Elizaveta Tuktamysheva praised the performances of Petrosian and Gumennik at the Russian Nationals, discussed international favorites, and shared her thoughts on Ilia Malinin’s technical achievements. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Q: What did you think of Petya and Adeliia’s performances?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Both of them performed wonderfully – Petr and Adeliia. I don’t want to set any expectations for them. I just wish them to show the best they are capable of. Overall, they’re having a good season. And right now, this isn’t their most important competition – the main one is in a month and a half. So for now, these are just working performances.

Q: Who do you see as the strongest internationally in the disciplines where our athletes aren’t competing?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: The ice dance teams are very strong right now, and pairs and ladies are also catching up technically, especially the women. In pairs, the competition is incredibly interesting! But what struck me as phenomenal was Guillaume Cizeron’s return to ice dance with his new partner, Laurence Fournier Beaudry. They make an amazing pair. In men’s, of course, Ilia Malinin, who is doing the impossible and proving that it’s all possible.

Q: What was your reaction to Malinin’s “seven quads”?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: I saw his training, so the competition itself wasn’t as surprising to me. At first, you see it and think, “Well, yes, he did seven quads.” But when you realize what just happened before your eyes, you understand the scale of the achievement. The ease with which Ilia does quads can be misleading. It’s actually very difficult, but he’s a genius! Toe loops and lutzes look so easy for him. It all seems like anyone could do it, but seven quads – that’s something out of this world.

Q: In your opinion, is this risk justified? Do you think he should attempt the same content at the Olympics?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: I think they’ll make the right decision. But if he’s already shown he can do it, then why not?”
