Russian figure skater Adeliia Petrosian, after winning her third consecutive national title, expressed her determination to show her best at the Olympics, emphasizing self-competition and a desire for more pre-Olympic events. Here’s a translation.
Adeliia Petrosian made several mistakes in her free skate at the Russian Nationals but still won the event with a total score of 235.95 points.
Petrosian landed a triple axel with a step-out, fell on the quadruple toe loop, and then doubled a second quad.
She then landed a triple loop, a sequence of a triple lutz and two double axels, and two triple flip–triple toe loop combinations. Petrosian executed her step sequences and spins at level four.
“I just hope I won’t let myself, my coaches, or my fans down at the Olympics. I’ll do everything I can and try to show my maximum,” Petrosian said.
“For me, this is a stage before the most important competition. The short program went well, and I’m skating the free program more confidently than before. I just need to refine it and land the jumps I’m planning,” she told Sport24.
Petrosian also named herself as her main rival at the Milan Olympics.
“Q: Who do you consider your main rival at the Olympics?
Adeliia Petrosian: There are many. The girls are gaining form, adding more ultra-c elements, and improving their skating. I can’t name just one; there are many competitors.
Q: Would you say your main competitor is yourself?
Adeliia Petrosian: Of course, I always compete with myself.”
Petrosian also said she would like to participate in another competition before the Olympics. “I don’t know anything yet about other events. But I would like to compete somewhere else. All the other athletes had six or seven competitions before the Olympics, but I’ve had much fewer.
I’d like to compete somewhere else, preferably closer to Moscow. It’s not really about the audience; that’s not essential. But it’s important how the coaches and federation decide,” Petrosian said.
