Coach and choreographer Romain Haguenauer commented on Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron debut performance. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on L’Equipe.
Watching from the rinkside, coach Romain Haguenauer was impressed. “I saw their free skate from a reverse angle, but I noticed the presence they command on the ice, as if they’re ahead of time. It’s a good sign of comfort, control, and synchronicity. I’m not surprised, but I’m pleased,” he remarked.
However, much work remains for them to become the best in the world. “Speed, commitment, and being even closer together in moments so that they feel like one… they can’t afford to lose even half a point if they want to achieve the highest possible scores,” Haguenauer noted. He emphasized that their rhythm dance offers even greater room for growth.
Timing remains a critical area of focus, especially as judges demand swift tempos in the circular step sequence. “There’s a higher level of rhythmic complexity, more intricate footwork and gestures, all of which must align perfectly with the music,” Haguenauer explained. “This requires more work, particularly since the short program was choreographed later on.”
With their immediate focus now on refining these details, Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron are preparing for their next competition at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany (September 25–27).
