Mai Mihara (25) who suffered from a stress fracture in her right ankle last season commented on her form, programs and attitude towards the upcoming season. Here’s a translation of her comment.

Although not fully recovered, Mihara said that she is in a better state compared to the last season, stating, “The degree of pain is completely different from last season. I’m getting to a condition where I can manage it well.” She plans to concurrently work on increasing the strength of her leg.

The theme of her SP music, “Grief,” focuses on sorrow. She placed a rhinestone just below her right eye to represent tears and smiled, saying, “I put it on with the thought that what lies beyond the tears is the present.”

At the Japanese team press conference held on the 30th in Tokyo for the opening of the 2024-25 figure skating season, Mai Mihara declared “Gorgeous” as her theme for this season. Her free program will be to “The Red Violin,” and she mentioned, “Mr. David (choreographer David Wilson) wants me to skate gorgeously,” explaining the reason behind her choice.

“From the off-season, I’ve been building up my training after returning from an injury. I want to not only practice but also strengthen my body through training to elevate my performance level and ensure that I can perform flawlessly under any circumstance in any competition,” she expressed her determination.
