Elizaveta Tuktamysheva in the interview with Elena Hanga for youtube channel Just Genetiks told about what she was afraid of at competitions and relationships between figure skaters and judges. Here’s a translation of her comment.
“Eizaveta Tuktamysheva: In my early childhood, I had a problem – I was afraid of a large audience. This fear very quickly passed, and now I enjoy a large audience, it doesn’t scare me. I was scared to make a mistake because I knew how I would recriminate myself later. I understood that it was my fault and what it could cost me. I was not afraid of being reprimanded by a coach or parents but that I would be eating up myself.
This worry helps to reduce the significance of some competitions. You go out, skate calmly, thinking that it’s just a run-througth. You simplify the importance.
Q: Can nerves be trained?
Eizaveta Tuktamysheva: I think you can work on this. I don’t know to what extent. I am a very responsible person, so I get nervous. But with age, you can control it.
Q: Do you suggest taking children to a psychologist?
Eizaveta Tuktamysheva: Of course, I myself see a psychologist, and recommend it to both parents and children.’
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva also talked about the relationships between figure skaters and judges.
“Q: Do you know the judges personally?
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Yes, yes, I of course know some of them. In figure skating, more or less everyone knows each other.
