Maia Shibutani & Alex Shibutani. Coppélia short dance
Brother and sister Shibutani have started the season at Ondrej Nepela Trophy in Bratislava. We have already seen the dances of their main rivals Chock and Bates, so we can compare. I prefer the Shibutani’s short dance more. The waltz suits them a lot and they really feel the mood of the dance and have the needed soft skating and accurate lines.
Their short dance is to Coppélia by Léo Delibes. It’s a classic piece but it’s a comic ballet. So, the dance should be light and fun. The idea of dancing dolls is perfectly noticible, I like this no drama concept. The choreo is nice and perfectly fits the music. But they need to work on pattern, thy got only 2d levels for pattern and got only 63.24. And I wish they had a new lift. The judgment was strict and the score not high, but it’s for the best at the beginning of the season. It’s always good to test your programs and elements in front of strict judges to know your weaknesses.
