Alexei Mishin: We plan to complicate technical content of Costner’s program

Carolina Kostner returned to Alexei Mishin to prepare for the World Championships 2018.

Carolina came to St. Petersburg almost immediately after the Games and said she agrees to any terms, If only I agree to resume my work with her. I had a seminar planned in Macedonia in early March, so Kostner herself called their federation of figure skating to postpone this seminar to a later time. The problem is that I have a very busy schedule now …

I do not know whether I will find an opportunity to go to Milan. The problem is that I have a very busy schedule of seminars. Just after Macedonia I will fly to the UAE, then – to Poland and Estonia. Perhaps I’ll be able to find an opportunity to find a couple of days, but even if not, nothing terrible will happen. For me, it’s not important to sit with a titled student in the “Kiss and Cry”, I’m no longer a young coach who is hungry for recognition.

Previously, I repeatedly suggested Carolina some changes that could raise the base value of her program and, accordingly, the chances for a better result, but she did not agree. Now Kostner agrees on everything, whatever I offer her in training. We are really planning to complicate technical content and I do not think that it will be a problem for her.

Carolina arrogant? Please, she knows what she can do or not to avoid injuries.
She has reached everything in her career(i’m sure this is her last competition) and she can decide which jumps are better in her program. Younger athlets must listen to their coaches if they want
Medals. Carolina 15 years ago could do everything 3 Lutz+toe and 3flip+toe in the same program..she doesn’t need to learn anything

She couldn’t do the content she planned at Europeans or the Olympics… I don’t know why Mishin thinks she is capable of more. She should have done simpler content cleanly at the Olympics, if anything. She could have medaled or at least beaten Miyahara had she done 3T+3T in both programs.

Is she going to retire after worlds in Milan? I surely hope so…..She has become so arrogant.

EC18 press conference after free program was fun to watch!
    – Did the diamonds on your dress prevent you from jumping?
    – Carolina herself is a diamond!

It’s amazing Carolina needed to learn the hard way that she needs to increase the technical elements in her program. That she did learn the hard way implies at best stubbornness and worst arrogance. Didn’t realise she was like that.

I wouldn’t say that it’s stubbornness or arrogance, because she’s 31 and it’s obviously harder to learn new technical elements for her than for younger skaters.

Well, am not sure whether it’s that necessary…..I mean is she planning to continue?!

      • skating fan says:

I hope she’ll continue, it’s easy to spot skater over 30 in pairs or ice dance but not in singles. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the freshness of young skaters, but the maturity and class of older athletes is enjoyable to watch as well.

Mishin will be in Poland? Come on, when and where? :D
