Maxim Kovtun withdrew from Grand-prix in Canada due to relapse of old back injury. His coach Inna Goncharenko gave a comment.
Maxim has a relapse of his previous problems with back. There are no sharp pain sensations, but in training we always face the same thing: Kovtun starts to skate, normally works the first half hour or a little more, then his back gets stuck, and I have to give him rest.
Now it is still unclear how serious his treatment may be, we are trying to eliminate the problem through physiotherapy and massage, but at the moment it is impossible to predict anything. – Inna Goncharenko said
Kovtun also missed Russian test skates, so it seems the situation hasn’t improved much since.
