Laurence Fournier Beaudry & Guillaume Cizeron: “We told ourselves we were doing this for us first, because we love skating. At every stage, that’s what kept us going. We were fine as long as we were together. That’s what allowed us to make it to the end.”

Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry on France TV expressed their pride and emotion after their victory, reflecting on the challenges they overcame and the joy of skating together. Here’s a translation of their comments posted on L’Equipe.

Guillaume Cizeron: The wait was endless; we didn’t know what to expect. When we saw the scores appear, we realized we had won. It’s a bit surreal – we’re still a bit in shock. (…) It’s dizzying when you look back just a year. We took on this almost impossible challenge. God knows there were obstacles. We are extremely proud of ourselves and of the strength Laurence showed. We told ourselves we were doing this for us first, because we love skating. At every stage, that’s what kept us going. We were fine as long as we were together. That’s what allowed us to make it to the end.

Laurence Fournier Beaudry: We worked so hard to be here. It’s a feeling that’s very hard to explain. (…) There was never any doubt. We really had wonderful moments in training. Every day spent with Guillaume was magical. He’s the best skater in the world; it’s always an honor to go to practice with him. (…) We really want to savor this moment, which passes so quickly, and enjoy it as much as possible, but we’ll definitely be at the World Championships.”

Well, considering emerging judging scandal the french pair has nothing to be proud about. Their gold is clearly cheated
