Ice dancers Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri will compete in their fourth and final Olympics at Milano Cortina, aiming to finish their remarkable careers on a high note. Here’s a translation of their comments.
Marco: I have to say, since the Olympics aren’t quite here yet, you don’t really feel the Olympic atmosphere. Being in Milan, or rather here in Bergamo at the moment, we’re still not experiencing that Olympic vibe up close. So, we’re trying to approach these Olympics as naturally as possible, following our usual path as we always have.
Charlene: Yes, competing at home – more at home than this, I don’t think we could get, that’s for sure. Actually, seeing the Forum with all the Olympic setup will be strange in the sense that, like returning home, we don’t think about the result. We’re not thinking about the result; we truly want to skate our best and show that we’re here, because a few months ago, it seemed like we’d disappeared, even though we were still around.
Marco: We have a lot to consider, of course. It’s obvious that, when it comes to the Olympics, this will be our last – on that, we can already sign off. As for next season, we’ll see how things end up, but right now, we’re leaning more towards no than yes. It’s not just about the physical side – we’re actually doing pretty well physically, despite our age – but mentally, there comes a time when you want to do something else in life.
Charlene: And we’re waiting for everyone at the Forum to watch the Olympics, especially the ice dance – and us, of course. We’ll truly give everything we have and hope to put on the kind of show we know we can deliver.
Marco: Because if you want to see the most beautiful discipline of the Olympics, you have to come and watch ice dance. So, we’ll be waiting for you.
