Sota Yamamoto (26) achieved a season-best total of 270.07 points, earning his first podium finish at an International Skating Union Championship with a bronze medal. Here’s a translation of his comments.
Following his third-place finish in the short program, Yamamoto also placed third in the free skate with 175.39 points. The 26-year-old made his mark, saying, “There were mistakes and some regrets, but not letting those affect the rest of my performance led to my first medal. That’s something I want to praise.”
He made an error on his planned opening quadruple salchow, which became a triple, but then succeeded with a quadruple toe loop–triple toe loop combination and a solo quadruple toe loop. All three spins received Level 4. “I feel like I was just a little short,” he said, regretting the mistake, but added, “Not letting the mistake affect me afterward shows my growth. I was able to show what I’ve practiced, step by step.”
Yamamoto also expressed his intention to continue competing next season: “I want to keep challenging myself with more complex programs that can earn higher scores.”
